The Road To New Orleans

Panther Track, which was established in 1998 in Modesto, is currently operated by Dwayne Grady and has athletes from Tracy, Mountain House, Stockton, Elk Grove, Modesto, Denair, Turlock and Patterson.  In 2011 we are pleased to add athletes from the Atwater/Merced area, establishing Panther Track – South with new coaches Tori Eva and Larry Milton of Merced.

On June 17th the Panther Track crew traveled to Tulare, Ca to participate in the AAU Northern California National Junior Olympic Qualifier Meet. Thirty-four Panther athletes, ages 6 to 18, hailing from Tracy to Merced, competed in the meet. To the coaches’, parents’ and kids’ delight, 22 of the kids competed well enough to qualify in 36 events for the National AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans.

On July 2nd Panther Track traveled to Reno, NV to participate in the AAU West Coast Junior Olympics. Again to our delight, not only did we break two meet records and place 24 athletes in the top eight rankings for the West Coast in 44 events, but we also qualified 11 more athletes for the National AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans giving us a total of 33 athletes qualifying for our 2011 Olympic Team.

Before the Nationals however, we need to raise about $20,000 between now and July 20th. Our fundraising efforts will help to provide meet registration, transportation and lodging for 33 athletes and three coaches for the weeklong Olympic event. If we are successful in our fundraising efforts, the 2011 Panther Olympic team will leave Thursday July 28th headed for the National AAU Jr. Olympics in New Orleans, which will be held July 30th – August 6th, with one of our largest Olympic Teams ever.
