2nd Lt Samuel Leftenant
Dr.Gordon Leftenant is the nephew of 2nd Lieutenant Samuel Gordon Leftenant who was with the 99th fighter squadron, 332nd fighter group stationed at Ramitelli Airfield and went KIA/MIA April 12,1945.
2nd Lieutenant Samuel Gordon Leftenant’s remains were never recovered. He was the immediate younger brother of Dr. Gordon’s father, James Leftenant Jr. (Nancy Leftentant-Colon, see video, is a sister.) Gordon, the first male born in the family after 2nd Lieutenant Samual Gordon Leftenan’s death, was named Samuel Gordon Leftenant II after his uncle.
Gordon never met his uncle but he shared with me that his uncle has been a constant inspiration to him to both live up to his legacy as well as to have as full a life as he is graced with a life that his uncle was not afforded as a result of his sacrifice in service to our country.
Gordon stated “I have strived to be both the fulfillment of his life as well as the“son” he never got to have. If there is any way that I might help to finally bring his remains home to the family, and if there is any way to have his memory be an inspiration to others,I want to make that happen.”
